What happened on this day, April 17th?

The first thing was that history was made! On April 17th, 1991, Nirvana played a show at the OK Hotel in Seattle. During that performance, they let the crowd hear their new song "Smells Like Teen Spirit", the first time it was done live!

I'm glad someone was there with a video camera to record that moment!

And as for people being born, we had the birth of a man who you know from many bands and his vineyard! Maynard James Keenan came to us in 1964. Maybe you like him best when he sings for Tool. This is "Sober" from the Reading Festival in 1993.

Or perhaps you like your Maynard in Puscifer form. They performed "Conditions of My Parole" on Letterman in 2011.

Oh you're into A Perfect Circle! Got it! "Judith" comes to us from a French tv show (no date or name of the show, sorry).

Another birth today was from one of my favorite females in music, the lovely Liz Phair! She came to us in 1967 and here she is from October 10th, 2010 in San Francisco playing "Polyester Bride" at The Independent.

I'd say today has been pretty good to music!
