FUN. has definitely created something to “Carry On” about.
In October 2012, FUN. teamed up with fashion designer, Rachel Antonoff (sister of lead guitarist, Jack Antonoff) to create The Ally Coalition in hopes of raising awareness for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender & questioning/queer (LGBTQ) community.
The Ally Coalition (TAC) is a movement, which fully supports the LGBTQ community, by encouraging people to take action and stand up for those who are discriminated against because of their sexuality.
FUN. brings TAC on tour with them to join up with their fans who can tweet an Ally pledge at their Congress representatives to advocate for safe schools. They can learn about LGBTQ organizations and issues in their area as well.
At shows, a few spots are reserved for local LGBTQ youth-oriented organizations to connect with the community and receive donations from TAC. Notable groups to receive support so far include The Ruth Ellis Center of Detroit and The LGBT Community Center of Cleveland.
A dollar from every ticket sold on tour along with TAC merchandise sales goes straight to the Coalition and the local organizations. A donation-based raffle is held at all shows and FUN. personally donates a dollar for every picture taken at the TAC photo campaign tent.
Since their ‘Most Nights’ North American tour with Tegan & Sara is well underway, the support has been spreading. TAC has received and donated over $80,000 and more than 2,000 fans have taken an Ally pledge. Tegan and Sara are huge supporters of The Ally Coalition and are actively getting their fans involved.
Watch FUN. perform live at the 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival on Friday, September 20.
