Former Virginia governor Bob McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, face charges of illegally taking gifts from a Richmond area businessman who wanted special treatment.

According to the Washington Post, the McDonnells often asked Jonnie R. Williams Sr. for loans and gifts.  The money, clothes, goft equipment, plane rides, and other gifts totaled at least $165,000.

McDonnell is the first governor to ever face criminal charges in Virginia.  The former governor was once considered a possible vice-presidential candidate for Republicans in 2012 and some thought he may eventually run for president.
