The Black Keys cranked out their two biggest albums, Brothers and El Camino, in back-to-back years. They also toured relentlessly from 2010 to 2013. Front-man Dan Auerbach tells Rolling Stone, "We were this-is-your-brain-on-drugs fried."
The band attempted to record a new album on a few occasions, but they finally got in gear last year at L.A.'s Sunset Sound studios. The first song they recorded for their upcoming Turn Blue album is the seven-minute Weight of Love. After knocking that song out, Auerbach says, "We can do whatever we want, it'll be all right."
On the new album drummer Patrick Carney adds, "We were sort of making a headphone record. It pays off to listen more than once."
Since the band's 2011 El Camino album, Dan Auerbach went through a bitter divorce. It sounds like that had a major influence on Turn Blue.
