Steve Gleason was a special teams player for the New Orleans Saints from 2000-2006.  On the field, he's best known for blocking a punt that sparked New Orleans in their first home game after Hurricane Katrina.

In 2011, Gleason was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.  He now has no control over his entire body and communicates with the assistance of a computer.

Steve Gleason is also a huge Pearl Jam fan.

Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready developed a relationship with Gleason's family over the past couple of years.  Recently, the band asked Gleason to interview them for their upcoming Lightning Bolt album.

ESPN featured Gleason and the band over the weekend.  Gleason's one-on-one interview with Eddie Vedder is particularly moving.
