Macklemore surprised fans in his hometown of Seattle on Friday night. At the EMP Vivid Video Show, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis showed up to perform Thrift Shop and Can't Hold Us.
Because he was a "surprise guest" at the show, he wore a wig, beard, and a huge fake nose.
The crowd seemed to enjoy the surprise.
But, when photos of Macklemore at the event hit social media, a backlash began.
Tweets and articles claiming that the costume was anti-Semitic started pouring in.

Super unsurprised that Seattlites didn't think Macklemore's Jewish costume was offensive http://t.co/FJyzzgFnPp— Michael Barthel (@michaelbarthel) May 18, 2014
Macklemore responded to the backlash. He says he means no harm.
A fake witches nose, wig, and beard = random costume. Not my idea of a stereotype of anybody.— Macklemore (@macklemore) May 19, 2014
