In 2004, a pine tree was planted in memory of the late Beatle George Harrison.  The tree is located in Los Angeles' Griffith Park.

That tree has died.

The cause of death?

Beetles.

According to the LA Times, the original tree will be replaced.  An insect infestation has killed the pine tree.

The tree grew to over 10 feet tall.  But, according to LA Councilman Tom LaBonge, it fell victim to bark beetles and ladybug beetles.

George Harrison was an avid gardener and he spent his last days living in Los Angeles.  Harrison died in 2001.
