This will be a good one because even though it's a top 20 in the world beer (according to Beer Advocate), it's pretty easy to find in our area. So you can sample what is considered a top beer without having to road trip for it.
Having said that, it ain't cheap.
Look-I call this "soda" because it has the same look as a dark soda. Dark, hazy brown. A thin layer of foam on top. Very thin.
Smell-Sweet passion fruit mixed with a slight dark fruit aroma. It's a beautiful smell.
Taste-Not what I was expecting. More carbonation than I imagined. Toasty, fizzy, bubbly. Slight hints of the fruit described in the smell.
Mouth-Medium bodied. I mentioned the carbonation. Sweetness from the fruit but not overpowering.
Overall-UPDATE: I did the initial tasting with a chilled beer. As it warms, the dark cherry flavor and sweetness becomes more pronounced. Still a little more carbonated than I would like but it's much better as it warms. The heat also gets stronger as well. Still feeling my way through this genre but a really good (but not great imo) beer. The aroma of it is heavenly.
About Trappistes Rochefort 10:
The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.
